The Department of Science Studies at Vilnius University, which was founded in 1579 and is the oldest higher education institution in Eastern and Central Europe, specializes in the production of technologies for the optical-laser characterization of semiconductor compounds for use in modern optoelectronics in Europe, the US, Japan, and China. The demand for the innovative holographic instruments, the department has developed for semiconductor diagnostics, has been growing rapidly around the world. The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the US, which carries out research in semiconductors and the optimisation of production technologies, was one of the first to apply the instruments developed by the department’s scientists.
